The people of
Nicaragua
aren’t looking for a hand out, but they would benefit from the knowledge and experience
of others. Micro enterprises and cottage
industries would be a great way for single mothers to support their families. Volunteers can share with them farming
and agriculture experience; help them select the most appropriate crops and find
ways for them to market them properly.
Organic farms are spring up everywhere in
Central
America
due to the demand and premium prices offered by selective consumers.
Any food grown also supports the family since less money needs to be spent
on groceries each month. Free volunteer
programs are available online if you would like to review requests for help and
offer micro loans to women in
Nicaragua
and other developing countries.
Environmental awareness is growing in
Nicaragua
and eco tourism groups are in place to lead visitors thru the breathtaking wilderness. Volunteers can sign up to lead the treks
after orientation and several weeks of experience.
To support the organization without the long term commitment, consider participating
in one of the tours if you are in the area.
Funs from the project support local educational organizations in
Nicaragua
and
Guatemala
.
Educational centers in
Nicaragua
need volunteers with numerous skills, arts and crafts, musical knowledge, resource
management, engineering and architectural education, and of course teaching. Build and restore centers where children
will learn from caring instructors and receive basic medical care.
New facilities and projects are always under consideration, will you be the
one to design the new free healthcare clinic, the library, or drill a water well
to provide safe and fresh drinking water for an entire community.
There is so much more you can do to help others while traveling than buying handmade
jewelry or small souvenirs. I am reminded
of the wisdom ‘give a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and
he eats for a lifetime’. Do you have
anything to teach?
